Junior Olympic Program (JOP)
Our JOP program is run in partnership with the Saskatchewan Archery Association (SAA). We provide young archers, aged 7 - 21 years, with basic instruction in archery and the opportunity to develop skills, progress through badge levels, and participate in tournaments where they compete against other archers at their level.

FAQs
1. How much does JOP cost?
The total cost for the program is $380 for the season (October to April), which is broken down as follows:
Saskatoon Straight Shooters JOP Program - $300
Saskatoon Wildlife Federation Membership Fee - $50*
Saskatchewan Archery Association (SAA)/Canada Archery Membership - $30**
*Our JOP participants are required to have a Saskatoon Wildlife Federation (SWF) membership for insurance purposes as our program is run out of their facility. The cost for a youth membership is $50. Our club will collect this fee at the time of JOP registration and submit to the SWF on your behalf. If your child is included in an existing SWF Family Membership, you do not need to purchase a separate youth membership for them. The Saskatoon Wildlife Federation manages family memberships directly.

**Memberships are purchased directly from the SAA website as of October 1, 2024 for the 2024-25 season.
Your child will not be able to submit scores for JOP badges until they have their SAA membership.

2. What ages is JOP for?
Our Junior Olympic Club is open to children from 7 to 21 years of age.

3. What days and times does JOP run?
JOP runs on Sundays at the Saskatoon Wildlife Federation from September to April. Due to the nature of the program, we are not able to accept late registrations.
We have three shoot times: 10:00 am, 12:30 pm, and 2:15 pm.

Archers are placed into shoot times based on coach availability, shooting distance, and badge level. The JOP Coordinators will do their best to accommodate requests, however, we cannot guarantee that you will get your preferred shoot time.

4. Do I need to purchase equipment for my child?
We provide arrows, arrow stands, and entry-level bows for beginners to use for the first few months, however, your child must have their own bow, arrows, and hip quiver when we resume lessons after the December break. We highly encourage your child have their own bow as soon as possible. Once your child is shooting with equipment that is set up just for them, their scores will improve and so will their confidence! We recommend North Pro Sports and Kincade's Custom Archery for all equipment purchases.

5. How does my child earn badges? Is there an extra cost for them?
Badges are earned by shooting at least two required scores during regular JOP lessons, or a single score at at the JOP Championship in April. There are five badges to earn at 10-meter distance, four badges at 15-meter distance, and twenty-two 18-meter badges. The cost of badges are included in your fees. When your child receives their first badge they will also receive a sash and pin so badges can proudly be displayed on their quiver.
